CPA LICENSURE BY JURISDICTION
The Exam is national. Becoming licensed is state by state.
Every candidate sits the same Uniform CPA Examination, built from the same AICPA Blueprint — see the six Exam sections. But passing the Exam doesn’t make you a licensed CPA on its own: each of the 50 states, DC, and 5 U.S. territories runs its own licensure process through its own Board of Accountancy — its own education (credit-hour and coursework) requirements, its own work-experience requirement, its own ethics-exam rule, and its own application and fee process. For the general national pattern behind these requirements, see eligibility & experience requirements.
This directory reflects a real research pass, not a template: 55 of 56 jurisdictions below have been checked against an official board source in depth and are marked “verified”; the rest carry a confirmed, correct Board of Accountancy name and link but an honest “needs verification” note on the specific numbers — we’d rather tell you that plainly than guess at a credit-hour count.

U.S. territories — not shown on the map above
The standard US map projection has no way to place these alongside the 50 states, so they get their own row rather than being silently dropped from discovery.
